A Starry Night at USC: WISE Brings Aamir Khan & Kiran Rao for Encore Screening of Oscar Hopeful Lost Ladies

WISE Co-hosts Lost Ladies Screening with Aamir Khan, Kiran Rao, and Jyoti Deshpande in collaboration with USC at their Eileen Norris Cinema Theatre in the iconic Frank Sinatra Hall

A Night to Remember We co-hosted a special encore screening of Lost Ladies at the University of Southern California (USC), celebrating the film’s official selection as India’s entry for Best International Film at the 2025 Academy Awards.

Candid Conversation with the Filmmakers The event featured a live Q&A with Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande, the producers of Lost Ladies and Kiran Rao, the film's visionary director, moderated by USC Professor Priya Jaikumar. The discussion covered the creative journey behind the film, its global resonance, and the filmmakers' excitement about the Oscars.

WISE’s Commitment to Empowering Women Vineesha Arora-Sarin, President & Executive Director of WISE, commenced the evening by highlighting the organization’s unwavering commitment to empowering women in the entertainment industry. She shared her pride in presenting Lost Ladies during its global release, bringing it to Los Angeles in March 2024, and now welcoming it back during Oscar season as part of its remarkable journey to the Academy Awards.

A Star-Studded Evening The screening was followed by an engaging conversation, with Aamir Khan taking time to interact with fans. His presence was met with enthusiasm, creating an electric atmosphere in the theater. Every seat in the 300+ theater was booked, with folks being turned away at the door and some even sititng in the aisles to catch a glimpse of their favorite movie star and watch the film in his presence!

Kiran Rao and Jyoti Deshpande shared valuable insights during the Q&A session, skillfully moderated by USC Professor Priya Jaikumar. The lively discussion left students eager for more, with lines forming to ask their questions—though, unfortunately, time ran out. As the evening wrapped up, fans, still captivated, followed the stars to their car in a spirited frenzy. Aamir Khan graciously obliged with “car selfies,” adding a memorable touch to the night. It was truly a mesmerizing and fulfilling experience for everyone involved!

Check out some press on the same!

Looking Ahead This screening was a powerful celebration of storytelling and the women shaping the future of cinema. WISE continues to support diverse (and global) voices in film through its Lady With a Film showcases; and with Lost Ladies gaining international attention, the future looks bright.
